Back in the early 2000s, Daft Punk urged us to work harder, make it better, do it faster and make it stronger. Around the same time, the IPA, ISBA and CIPS launched the initiative that became Magic + Logic and helped redefine sustainable business practices for marketing and procurement.
The question now is not whether the marketing ecosystem will change. It is what will influence that change, and how organisations can make sure their model supports the work they need to do.
There is no single best model
With more than 25 years of experience optimising marketing setups, we’ve learned that the right answer depends on the organisation. Operating models must reflect business goals, internal capabilities, markets, speed, risk and the complexity of the content being produced.
What will shape the future
- AI and automation will change how content is created, adapted and delivered.
- Production capability will become a more strategic part of the marketing ecosystem.
- Organisations will continue to balance in-house expertise with specialist partners.
- Better data and clearer governance will help teams make faster, more confident decisions.
- Collaboration between Marketing, Procurement and suppliers will matter earlier in the process.
The strongest ecosystems will not be built around a fashionable tool or a fixed agency model. They will connect people, processes, technology and partners in a way that helps the organisation perform better.
